Hello...

from the Carolinas, USA. I'm here in my home studio, trying to get a few creative ideas out of my head.
This blog is a glimpse of what I'm up to, have to share, or want to gab about.

Pencil on clay

I told you I had lots of projects in the works. I probably erased more than I drew
on this one. Finally got the look I wanted. It's colored pencil on white clay.
I meant it to be Red Riding Hood, but her hood turned red-orange when the top coat
of clay was baked on. Turns out, I like it better that way with the indigo blue. :)

I don't know if you can tell it has a convex shape. And needs a hole at the top.
After a little mis-hap with my drill, I'm kind of skittish about that part.
Meanwhile, I may try to come up with a different method for hanging it as a pendant.
Besides... my hand needs a rest after all that sanding and buffing!

Little Red Riding Hood is lovely! And that's the pleasure about art - the unexpected outcome. Have you ever considered putting copper foil around the edges, then soldering it and soldering on a round ring for the chain? I know you probably like the uncluttered, clean edge look, but it could be something different...

I love that idea! I did think about some kind of border, but polymer clay can only withstand up to 275°(maybe 300°)F, so I think the solder heat would be too much. But wouldn't that be pretty? If only I could work with metal!
Thanks, Maree! :)

Thought of the heat problem 3 minutes after I posted comment - that's why I can't use plastic or much clay in my designs, unless it's a glue project. Maybe you could consider a new metal range? lol

You are such a fine artist Treasurefield! Her face is so sweet and lovely. So peaceful. (Little does she know some dumb wolf is going to try and eat her when she gets to Grandma's House!)

Oh, she is beautiful! I love the kinda misty look, soft and lovely. Pencil on clay...you are so cool!

How about one of those bails that they use on the scrabble pendants, would that be an option for your pretty lady? They just get glued to the back, so it wouldn't mar the surface of your art in any way.

Smiles, Karen

Thanks ladies!
LOL @ about the wolf. Have you ever seen "Hoodwinked", the animated movie about Red? We love that one!

Karen, that is a great idea! I'm going to try it & see if it works with the curvy shape of the oval. Sounds pretty!
